Tri-Folks: Keri Meraz

Welcome to my first Tri-Folks blog post. One of the main reasons I enjoy portrait photography is that I get to meet all sorts of people. So, I thought I should do a little bit of sharing about the people I meet in this endeavor, especially other small business owners.

Keri Meraz is my first subject, both in words and in image. I met Keri several years ago within the Tri-Cities area photography and creative circles. We have worked together on a few photo shoots, some for fun and some for paying clients. I was impressed with her makeup work because it is so natural. Often heavier makeup will cover up natural skin texture and it looks fake. High resolution digital photography picks up that heavier, texture concealing makeup. When I photograph people who have their makeup done by Keri their skin always looks great.

And now here is a bit about Keri in her own words…

WHY AND HOW DID YOU GET INTO MAKEUP ARTISTRY?

My interest in makeup started when I went to beauty school 18 years ago. We had a short course on makeup application and I was hooked! Originally I wanted to be a hairstylist and when I started going to beauty school I realize that I loved makeup more and wanted to pursue that instead.

IF YOU HAVE A SPECIALTY, WHAT IS IT?

Yes! My specialty is natural makeup that enhances my clients existing features. It’s alway my hope to enhance instead of conceal or change my clients features.

ARE YOU A TRI-CITIES NATIVE OR TRANSPLANT? IF NOT A NATIVE, WHERE ARE YOU FROM?

I’m a transplant! I grew up in a small town in Missouri. My family moved here when I was a junior in high school over 20 years ago.

WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR LIGHTHOUSE STUDIOS IN FIVE YEARS?

My goal is to still be doing makeup for special occasions and photography. I hope to continue find more balance in my work/family life and I hope that my character continues to grow and I can create and sustain lasting and meaningful relationships with my clients.

BESIDES BRINGING OUT WOMEN'S BEAUTY, WHAT DO YOU DO FOR FUN?

I love to read , shop , cook, find cute coffee shops, but my favorite thing to do is sit on my porch with my husband jamming out to country music and soak in all the blessings that God has given us.
